The destination

Chartering a yacht to Bimini

Bimini is the closest Bahamian island group to Miami, which makes it the natural first Bahamas yacht trip. It is small, relaxed and built around the water: shallow turquoise flats, a famous shipwreck you can snorkel, sandbars, fishing, and a handful of beach clubs and local kitchens. Guests who want a short, high-impact escape rather than a long expedition usually start here.

Just a few hours from Miami, Bimini is one of the hottest yacht destinations in South Florida. Enjoy miles of white sand beaches, majestic crystal-clear ocean, and a chain of exclusive islands, the perfect quick getaway from the mainland.

Prime Experiences plans the whole crossing from Miami, captain and crew, marina slips, provisioning and shore-side reservations, so the only thing you decide is where to drop anchor next.

Crossing and travel times are estimates only. Actual timing depends on the yacht, departure point, weather, sea conditions, route and the itinerary you choose. Your captain makes the final call on the day.

What you can do

Things to Do in Bimini

Snorkel the SS Sapona
01

Snorkel the SS Sapona

The SS Sapona is a concrete-hulled steamer that ran aground off South Bimini in 1926. Much of the wreck still sits above the waterline in shallow water, which makes it one of the easiest and most photogenic snorkel stops in the area. Access depends on sea conditions on the day.

Honeymoon Harbor
02

Honeymoon Harbor

A crescent-shaped anchorage on Gun Cay with clear, shallow turquoise water. It is a classic anchor-up spot for swimming, floating, wading the shallows and simply spending an afternoon off the swim platform.

Wild dolphin experiences
03

Wild dolphin experiences

Bimini's waters are known for wild dolphin sightings, and boats do run trips to the areas where they are most often seen. These are wild animals in open water, so encounters can never be guaranteed on any given day.

Fishing in Bimini
04

Fishing in Bimini

Bimini has a long-standing reputation as a sportfishing destination and is closely associated with Ernest Hemingway's time in the islands. Offshore and flats fishing can be arranged depending on the yacht, season and licensing.

Beach and resort day
05

Beach and resort day

Bimini pairs yacht time with time ashore. Marina-side resorts, pools, beach clubs and long stretches of quiet sand are all within easy reach, so you can split the day between the water and the island.

Taste Bimini
06

Taste Bimini

Fresh seafood, conch prepared several ways and casual Bahamian island cooking. Shore-side reservations can be arranged in advance, or your crew can serve aboard.

Sandbars and water toys
07

Sandbars and water toys

Shallow sandbars are a highlight of the area: swimming, floating and paddleboarding in waist-deep water. Available water toys vary by yacht, so we confirm what is aboard before your trip.

You do not have to spend the crossing at sea. Depending on the destination, the yacht and the itinerary, guests can fly into the Bahamas and have the yacht experience begin there. It is a popular choice for travelers who would rather spend their days exploring islands than covering distance. Tell us your dates and we will confirm what is possible for your group.

Fly-in availability depends on the yacht, the destination and the itinerary. We confirm airports, timing and logistics with you before anything is booked.

Miami to Bimini yacht charters, FAQ

Are fuel, marina and permit fees included if we depart from Miami?

No. Rates that include fuel and local fees apply to charters that begin in the Bahamas. If your yacht departs from Miami and crosses to Bimini, fuel, marina and dockage, cruising permits and customs or immigration fees are not included and are quoted separately in writing before your trip is confirmed.

Is Bimini a good weekend yacht trip from Miami?

Yes. Bimini is the closest Bahamian island group to Miami, which is why it is the most common short Bahamas yacht trip. It suits guests who want an island escape without committing to a long itinerary. Actual crossing time depends on the yacht, departure point, weather and sea conditions.

What can you do in Bimini on a yacht trip?

Snorkeling the SS Sapona wreck, anchoring at Honeymoon Harbor, sandbar and swim stops, paddleboarding and water toys, fishing, beach and resort time ashore, and local Bahamian food. What is possible on a given trip depends on the yacht, the itinerary and conditions.

Can you snorkel the SS Sapona?

The SS Sapona sits in shallow water off South Bimini and is a well-known snorkeling stop. Whether you can snorkel it on your trip depends on sea state, visibility and your captain's judgment that day.

Can you fly to Bimini and meet the yacht there?

In many cases yes. Guests who prefer not to spend the crossing at sea can fly in and begin the yacht experience in the Bahamas. Availability depends on the yacht and itinerary, so we confirm the details with you before booking.

Is Bimini good for families?

It can be. The shallow, calm water at sandbars and anchorages suits families, and a shorter trip is often easier with children. Guest capacity depends on the yacht, since overnight trips are limited by sleeping cabins.

How many days should I spend in Bimini?

Bimini works well as a short trip, and many guests treat it as a weekend-style escape. If you want more island variety or a longer vacation, Nassau or the Exumas are usually the better fit. We build the length around your dates rather than a fixed package.

How long is the crossing from Miami to Bimini?

We estimate roughly 3 hours from miami at a comfortable cruising speed, but this is an estimate only. Crossing and travel times are estimates only. Actual timing depends on the yacht, departure point, weather, sea conditions, route and the itinerary you choose. Your captain makes the final call on the day.

How many guests can come on a Bimini trip?

Overnight trips typically carry 2–8 guests, since everyone needs a cabin. Day charters in Miami carry more, but multi-day charters are limited by sleeping capacity.

What is included in a Miami to Bimini charter?

Your charter includes the yacht, licensed captain and crew, and a planned itinerary. Fuel for the crossing, marina slips, provisioning, customs fees where applicable and crew gratuity are quoted separately so you see exactly what you are paying for.

Do I need a passport?

Yes. The Bahamas is an international destination, so every guest needs a valid passport. Your captain handles the vessel's clearance process on arrival.

How far in advance should I book?

Multi-day trips take planning: marina slips, provisioning and crew scheduling. We recommend reserving 4 to 8 weeks ahead, and earlier for holiday weekends.

Lina and Mario were great for a group trip we had. We cruised around for a bit and did jet skis. They hosted our group for a birthday trip for my brother. I would definitely charter a boat again.
